Oh, And To Top It Off

April 28, 2009 at 8:35 am (House, Rants)

I think I need a root canal…with no dental insurance. My dentist’s office calls me every month “hi, its been a while since you’ve been in, we’d love to see you again”. Matt has the same dentist. Every time he goes in for some work they tell him the same thing “where’s your sister?”. I told him to tell them I would love to come in but I don’t have any freakin’ dental insurance! I love how they’re all “we have a payment plan, just put half on your credit card”…um yea, cause that never catches up with you – you put it on your card and then the credit gods just pay it off!

Plus, my boss sent out little notes in our paychecks last week that said there would be no raises this year. Ok, well, we never get raises we just get cost of living increases, but evidently this year the cost of living has stayed the same. Meanwhile, he’s on vacation…again.

Can I ever just get a frickin’ break?! I swear I get to the point where my head is above the water and life punches me in the stomach again!

Completely Overwhelmed!

April 27, 2009 at 8:50 pm (House, Rants)

Ugh – homeownership SUCKS!

I have so much to do and I’m officially out of money.

My grass is full of dandelions in the front yard. I barely have any grass in the backyard cause the previous owner ripped out all the overgrown bushes and reseeded, but did it too late in the season. So basically I have big brown patch, and a small green yard. It looks pathetic.

I still don’t have any cold water pressure in the kitchen sink. A friend of mine was supposed to be coming to fix it, but hasn’t made it here yet.

The electrical outlets are so loose they’re falling out of the walls. Nice job with the inspection there, buddy! My mom was here a few weeks ago and was drying her hair in the downstairs bathroom and blew a fuse…twice. That’s not a good sign.

I would love to have my friends over to hang out at some point, but its 90 degrees in my living room because the front storm door is all glass and the previous owner didn’t leave the screen insert – WTF?! Even if she did, the door doesn’t close all the way, so its fly city in my house.

The back storm door doesn’t close either, and there’s no screen at all, so there’s no way I can leave it open.

I’d love to invite my friends over and hang out in the dirt-laden backyard to avoid the 90 degree living room (yes I have AC but its April!)…but I have no where for them to sit. I need some patio furniture. Do you know what patio furniture costs!? Good god man!

Painting? No I haven’t done anymore painting. Seriously, I have to prime every room in this house to get rid of the black ceilings and dark red and dark green walls. I don’t even know where to start. I should probably finish the bathroom first huh?!!?

Oh, this is just the beginning of my problems. My home inspector SUCKED and they will be getting a nasty letter from me soon!

So yea, what the hell was I thinking when I thought “I’ll buy a house, I can handle it”…”UM NO YOU CAN”T STUPID – YOU’RE ONLY ONE PERSON ON ONE SALARY”.

Oh, and then my damn insurance company denied my allergy shots (which I called to make sure were covered BEFORE I started them) and the doctor sent me a bill for $1600…I wrote them back and told them if they could find $1600 they could have it. I told them they better recode that shit and rebill it if they want to get paid!

I’m gonna go cry myself to sleep now. I hope I’m feeling better about this whole experience soon cause I can’t take much more of this!

I Got Something Done This Weekend!

March 23, 2009 at 4:06 pm (House, Weekend)

I’d love to show you pics, but I’m not totally finished and I don’t want to ruin it. I guess I could do “in progress” pics, but I think I’ll just wait till the final reveal. I worked on the upstairs bathroom this past weekend. It looks so good, I’m really impressed with myself! I even hung the new light (took me forever to try to wire it and hold it up there all by myself)…same goes for the new medicine cabinet. But it looks awesome, I’m really happy with it so far. And I love the color Nancy and I chose. She’s my decorating guru at work. She can envision things…I can’t. She did great with this one! So, I still need to do the trimwork and the ceiling and hang some towel bars. Also still need to do the shelving project. I’m debating over the beadboard. I would really love to do it, but I don’t have all the tools I need. It may be a project down the road when I get bored with the bathroom. Pics coming soon!

I Suck At This Blogging Thing

March 9, 2009 at 3:27 pm (House, Weekend)

So, still no house pics. It went from snow to rain, I haven’t taken any, sorry.

In other news, I now have a new roof AND a new water heater, which I’m super excited about. The other one was so loud (from the sediment buildup) that Matt would take a shower at 3am and it would wake me up. It sounded like someone threw tennis shoes in the dryer next to my bed. Anyways, its all better now. Even the water hammer that was driving me crazy is gone. Yeah 🙂

I’m officially broke though. And, we had a windstorm last week and part of my fence fell down. Not good. Actually, I’m not even positive its MY fence, but seeing as its either mine, or my 93 year old neighbor who just had hip surgery’s, I figured I’ll just grab some wood screws and try to fix the damn thing. After pricing out what it would cost to refence my yard, I decided to do some patchwork for a few more years. But man those white vinyl fences look pretty!

Saturday I took a break from the house after the dishwasher was fixed and the new hot water tank installed, and I met my girls out for dinner. It was awful. We could not have had worse service if we tried. Seriously, he didn’t write down any of our orders, then screwed them all up. I hate when waiters/waitresses do that! WRITE IT DOWN! Poor Sam didn’t get any food at all! So we all hit up the bar for some drinks afterward and had a good time. My good time spilled right on over to Sunday morning, and ended with a huge headache at 9am. But it was fun, so it was worth it.

Ok, I’m seriously going to try and post some house pics soon. Really, I am. I won’t be onto the decorating anytime soon, but at least everyone will get to see it.

Till next time…here’s Moo!

Cause I’m Killing Time

February 23, 2009 at 11:52 am (House, Space Filler, Weekend)

Not much to report. Still no new hot water heater. I did get another quote on the roof. I guess I’ve decided to just go ahead and re-roof the whole house. I may as well. I’m afraid if I don’t I’ll be kicking myself next year when it starts leaking in the front of the house. So hopefully they can get started on that next week if it warms up a bit.

Speaking of cold, shitty weather. I went to Kerri’s at 6 last night, as I always do on Sunday nights for dinner and to watch some tv. So I left and it was just flurrying a little bit. When I left Kerri’s 6 hours later, it was completely dry at her place. When I drove south it was like a damn blizzard. I don’t usually get scared easily when driving in this crappy weather, but I was kinda freaking out. It was really bad, and of course, there were no snowplows anywhere to be found. I’m glad I made it home in one piece. So many people were spun out or just stuck and couldn’t get out.

Anyhoo, that’s about it. I had a nice boring weekend of laundry and another trip to Home Depot. Oh, and I bought a fireplace for the living room. I heard they’re good for putting out heat and keeping the gas bill down. I sure hope so. Plus its really cute and now I have somewhere to hang the stockings next Christmas.

Mojo’s doing well. He looks sad sometimes. I don’t know if its just his face or if its me. I always feel like he should have a playmate. He had lots of other dogs at the foster home he was in. Maybe I’ll get another one someday, but that’s a lot of work. He keeps me busy enough.

Here’s a little more info about me that you don’t care about:

I stole it from Steph…check out her blog, she’s pretty cool.

Thank Goodness That’s Over!

February 4, 2009 at 3:52 pm (Dog, House, Weekend)

Wow. Its been a quite a week.

To start with I got really sick on Wed. of last week. That made moving absolute hell. Thankfully I have awesome friends who all showed up and got everything done. It was freezing cold and it seemed to take forever but it all got done. Thankfully my mom ended up coming out with Wylie. She spent the whole day cleaning the old apartment after we packed the truck. I’m glad she did cause we were beat and there’s no way I would have gotten it all done afterwards. She also unpacked and cleaned and organized the whole kitchen at the new house. I wasn’t much use on Sunday. I mostly laid on the couch and moved some furniture around, but I was feeling really crappy.

Mojo came on Monday. He’s been such a good dog so far. I stayed home trying to get over this infection on Tuesday, so today is the first day he’s been alone all day, but I’m not worried.

On Sunday I woke up to a miniature waterfall in the master bedroom downstairs. Seems that little roof leak that I was aware of was a little larger than I had hoped. Its also leaking in the walls. I called the roofer that I had the quote from and they proceeded to tell me that there’s not a lot I can do until Spring comes. Guess its just common in those houses. Unfortunately, that little problem is going to cost me money (the roof is paid for, there’s money in escrow), but I need to re-drywall, new insulation, and a new ceiling now. Oh how I need a handyman!

The water heater is banging like there are shoes in the dryer. I called the home warranty people. Its not covered. Just kill me now. Its sediment build up. Evidently a common problem. So it needs to be flushed. Now…I just have to figure out how to do that.

I need to make some plumber friends asap. Maybe some frywalling friends too. And an electrician wouldn’t hurt.

I don’t want a house anymore. I’m broke.

Wow Its Freakin’ Cold

January 16, 2009 at 10:20 am (Dog, House, Weekend)

I tried to start my car this morning. On the 5th try it started. It made a horrible sound. I think it was saying “bitch, please!”. I looked at the temp and it was -10. Poor car. I promise I’ll have a garage for you soon!

I really wish I could go see my dog this weekend. I just don’t know what to do with him for 3 hours. I can only spend so much time with him at Petland. And I can’t bring him back to the apartment. And its waaaaay too cold to be taking him to the park. I guess I’m just going to have to wait to see him till I move 😦

More packing this weekend. Mom comes out next weekend to help me finish up. I just found out my neighbor is moving out the same weekend I am. He lost his job so he’s moving back to Columbus. Things suck. I hope they get better soon. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost my job and had a new mortgage to worry about.

Packing and More Packing

January 11, 2009 at 6:07 pm (Dog, House, Weekend)

Well its been quite a busy weekend. Friday night I spent a lot of time driving. I went to see my new dog at his foster dad’s. It usually doesn’t take so long to get there, but we got a ton of snow and I ended up driving for about an hour and a half to see him, then an hour and a half home. But, it was totally worth it. I definitely want him. He’s an American Bulldog. He’s 4, housebroken and trained (yeah!), and he’s so sweet. I just fell in love with him. His name is Mojo. So, I put a deposit on him and he should be mine after the move! Here’s a couple pics of my handsome new boy!

Saturday night Kerri and I went to see Rent. It was so good! I definitely recommend you see it if you get the chance…I will definitely be going again!

And today, Sunday, I’ve spent my day packing. I feel like I’ve been packing forever, but for some reason it doesn’t look like I did much 😦 I got most of the living room and dining room done. I hate packing. I have a headache from it and now I’m about to take some medicine and watch a movie. Unfortunately, my jerk-off neighbors just got home in time to ruin the peace and quiet.

Sorry no more pretty pictures, but there just isn’t time for knitting right now!
